Wickersley Student attends BioGrad Education Programme in Liverpool

Wickersley Sixth Form student, Emily, attended a Biomedical Science course at BioGrad Education in Liverpool over the summer.

The course is designed to help prepare students for future academic study in medicine, biomedical science, and bioscience fields.

BioGrad emailed our Sixth Form to say what a credit to us Emily was when she attended the programme. They commented that she distinguished herself with her enthusiam, maturity, and commitment to learning. She was curious and showed confidence in every practical lesson; showing an excellent understanding of laboratory procedures. She was able to quickly apply new concepts to her work too. They also commented on her proactive attitude and willingness to engage with every activity.

She was a “standout” student and they are confident she has the potential excel in any future career within biomedical sciences.

The course included practical training in:

  • Safe lab practice, risk assessment and COSHH
  • Blood typing
  • Bacterial culture, Gram staining, and microscopy
  • Diagnostic ELISA assay and infection tracing
  • PCR and qPCR setup and analysis
  • Scientific communication and presenting results

Well done, Emily, we’re incredibly proud to receive such wonderful words about our students!
