Yesterday, our Sixth Form students, alongside the Wickersley Year 11 Scholar Students, took part in an exciting Escape Room–style event hosted by Dr Paul Elliot, Homerton College, Cambridge University.
Wickersley Sixth Form is proud to have established strong learning links with Homerton College, Cambridge, providing students with valuable opportunities to engage with university-level experiences
The day was designed to challenge students to apply their logical thinking and academic knowledge to a series of engaging puzzles, each unlocking clues towards a final master challenge. Activities ranged from solving nautical riddles to tackling chemistry-based problems, with students working to retrieve clues from locked boxes and piece together the final solution.
The students who solve the master puzzle will be invited down to Cambridge University to complete another, more advanced, escape room – complete with inflatable maze!
It was a fantastic event, which really put our students to the test. Feedback from participants highlighted how challenging yet enjoyable the experience was, encouraging teamwork and pushing them to draw on their knowledge in creative ways to progress.
Alice Cruise, Head of Wickersley Sixth Form, said: “This has been a really fantastic enrichment event for not just our Y12 and Y13 students, but also Wickersley Y11 students who are aiming to come to our Sixth Form with a view of going to Russell Group universities. Being able to utilise a range of skills, in a different and fun way, to achieve a shared goal.”
Dr Paul Elliott, Director of Studies in Biology and Scientific Admissions Tutor at Homerton College, Cambridge University, said: “All of the students performed exceptionally well and were fully engaged with every challenge. It’s been a pleasure to meet so many enthusiastic young people, and I hope to welcome them to Cambridge soon for the next stage of the competition.”
