Why study this course?

The Level 3 Protective services course aims to provide you with the skills, experience and knowledge that will enable you to develop a career in the fire service, ambulance, police or armed forces.

You will study a broad range of areas from Leadership and Teamwork, Citizenship and the Law, Health and Healthy Lifestyles alongside Outdoor adventures and Crime in Society.  This course would go well alongside Applied Sport or Health and Social Care.

The Extended Certificate is for learners who are interested in learning about the protective services sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses.

The units offered within the course include:

  • Government and policies
  • Health and fitness
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Citizenship and diversity
  • Crime and its effects on society, and planning and management of major incidents
  • Skills for land-based activities
  • Skills for water-based activities
  • Volunteering in Public services

 

How will I be assessed?

The majority of units are ‘coursework’ based

Two units are assessed via an online exam (The methods of assessment is still being examined by OFQUAL)

 

Where can it lead?

Protective services apprenticeships, Higher education or careers in the police, prison service, armed services and fire service.
